Understanding Fibromyalgia
63
Chronic pain in ligaments and muscles is caused by fibromyalgia. This is a disorder that is known for causing fatigue, tender spots and musculoskeletal pain. The process of elimination is gone through before this diagnosis is made. In order to rule out other causes, a great many tests must be conducted. Those who have fibromyalgia or FMS have described many symptoms such as aching all over, muscles that feel as if they have been pulled and twitching and burning of the muscles.
Is Fibromyalgia a Non-Disease?
Dr. Frederick Wolfe wrote a paper in 1990 describing the criteria that was considered to be what defined fibromyalgia. Since that time FMS has been the subject of much controversy as to whether it is a legitimate disorder or a non-disease. Dr. Wolfe, himself has even said he is doubtful about the diagnosis of this disorder and feels the condition is a person's way of dealing with depression, stress and economic as well as social anxiety. Many feel that by calling this a legitimate disease it is merely giving foundation to the patients' belief.
However, one of the reasons for the belief may be that the cause of FMS is unknown. It is known that it affects women more than men. According to statistics over 80% of those suffering from FMS are between the ages of 30 and 60 and are women. Since the cause is unknown it stands to reason that the treatment would be a little confusing as well. Some of the things that are known to help and this is according to those who suffer from FMS, are massage therapy, a good diet, better-quality sleep and light exercise.
Beneficial Treatments for FMS
The use of massage chairs has been found to help those suffering from pain constantly. There are many symptoms associated with FMS. Here are a few that have been reported by those who suffer from this sometimes debilitating disorder.
* Poor sleep resulting in constantly being tired is shared with one other more common symptom
* The second common complaint is the pain experienced in muscles
* Headaches
* Pain in the area of the knees
* Persistent dry mouth
* Urinating frequently
There are others but the ones named here are the ones that are more frequently heard about than others. There are some hopeful signs for treatment because one of the things that seem to do a great deal for the pain is massage. This is due to the improved circulation that is a benefit of many types of massage such as shiatsu massage and robotic massage. Those who have found relief from the achy muscles and the burning pain caused by FMS have had massage treatments and they provided very good results.
Pain-Relieving Massage Therapy
With today's technology there are many massage therapy treatments that you can have in your own home. Massage chairs that provide a much needed relief from the stress which causes fibromyalgia to flare up and rob the body of much needed sleep can be purchased and you can use them from the comfort of your living room. With the advances being made and the availability of the shiatsu massage chair the body can be relaxed and feeling much better in no time. The use of heat in this massage chair is another benefit. However, the practice of shiatsu which is considered 'diagnosis and therapy' uses an age old tradition of finding the conflict within the body and massaging it away.
When using a robotic massage chair the latest in technology is yours. This chair mimics the human touch of a massage so closely; it is approved by the American College of Chiropractic Orthopedists. The relief that can be provided by using one of the massage chairs is reported to be so soothing that if you close your eyes, you would think it was a human performing the massage.
If you are suffering from FMS and have found only temporary relief on occasion you should seriously consider the massage therapy one of these chairs can provide. There are various types but the shiatsu massage chair and the robotic massage chair can provides hours of relief by massaging away pain from muscles and tender areas. The human body does respond to massage-this has been proven.
Massage therapy is becoming more widely known for a variety of ailments. It should come as no surprise that fibromyalgia sufferers can find relief from massage therapy. The need for a way to end the suffering and help those who need immediate relief may be only a few steps away when they purchase a massage chair for their own personal use.
