When it gets to that time of year and the winter weather appears everyone knows what a fireplace is, this may be a wood burning fireplace or a gas fire. However because of the issues regarding the environment many people are looking for alternative fireplace options. This is why electric fireplaces have become another option for people to consider so they can enjoy a fireplace without the environmental hazards.

These types of fireplaces are practical and energy efficient heating your home giving a nice warm atmosphere to the home. There are many different designs and styles to choose from, far more today than previous years, sometimes it is even hard to detect that it is an electric fireplace because they look so real. The electric fireplaces are really great because with the click of a button your room will start to heat almost immediately, some even have another switch that brings a warm glow to the room just like a real fire.

There are so many advantages to this type of fireplace and in some ways they are a lot safer. The majority of electric fireplaces work by the use of a, fan forced heater, this works by spreading the warmth throughout the room. Installed in the fireplace are large metal coils and when you switch the fire on the electric heats these metal coils within the fireplace. The fan will then distribute the heat from the coils outwards allowing the heat into your room. If you look at a fan forced heater these work in a slightly different way but are very energy efficient, and they give a fair amount of heat distribution in a large room. These provide heat almost the instant they are switched on, so if you come inside on a winter’s day you can have instant warmth within seconds. There are no loud noises coming from these heaters, largely on account of their super silent fans.

believe it or not... that flame is artificial!

Those who may be wondering how much heat comes from these electric fireplaces can gasp in disbelief, because an electric fireplace will produce as much heat as a wood powered fire. People like electric fireplaces because they get all the heat and warmth just like a wood burner but with no smoke or the risk of sparks flying out of the fire. The difference between gas or wood fireplaces, are electric fireplaces do not require a duct system or built in chimney, because they require no venting they can go against almost any wall in a room.

Almost all electric fireplaces are portable; this is great and something that the majority of people who have an electric fireplace enjoy about them. This gives you the freedom to put the fireplace into any room of your choice and also allows you to rearrange the interior of the rooms, when and how you want without any fuss. As mentioned previous the electric fireplaces look so natural in a room that any guests will probably be unable to tell the difference.

There are many other ways you can use electric fireplaces; for example a smaller home, apartment or office. This can help you to keep expenses down because there will be no need to pay for firewood or any chimney cleaning bills. If you have never thought about having an electric fireplace in your home before maybe now is the time to consider one.

Can I put an electric fireplace insert inside a Franklin stove?

Hey Miff! That's a good question... typically, I would say no, because I have never encountered a electric fireplace insert that was small enough to fit inside of a franklin stove. Though perhaps there are larger franklin stoves out there than the ones I'm accustomed to? At any rate, the point is, I think this question is best answered on a case-by-case, product-by-product basis.

HOWEVER - I have seen lots of modern franklin stoves with electric fireplaces already built into them. These franklin stoves are larger than the normal models, and the electric fireplaces are not removable as they are built directly into the apparatus.

I'm sorry I couldn't be more helpful... but hopefully this 'sorta' answers your question. Good luck with your fireplace!

Nice hub. What type of electric fireplace would be suitable for a small bedroom which is about 9x9 feet? Id like one which isn't too bulky, but still produces a good amount of heat.
