The home fireplace is a work of art. A simple concept turned into a remarkable resource. If you had a fireplace inside your home, that meant you had class. Going back to the 1700's where people wanted a cost efficient way to produce heat. Even though we have more technology, the fireplace has remained the same. Two elements such as the insert and the surround is what makes a fireplace essential.

The insert is part of the fireplace where the fire is burned. The insert is also built around cast iron and decorated with beautiful tiles. The fireplace surround is made up of iron, wood, marble and granite. Benjamin Franklin, a prolific inventor, played an important role in the invention of fireplaces. Franklin wanted to find the best way to heat an entire room. He discovered that putting a stove in the center of the room would heat it entirely.

Benjamin Franklin invented the first stove (known as the Franklin stove). His other discovery was using heavy cast iron. He used the cast iron so when the flames went out, the heat continued being produced. One problem with his discoveries, the air from the smoke wouldn't drawn in. Chimneys were built so the smoke could vent out. That's how the L-shaped design came into place. The L-shaped stove moved the smoke that came from the fire, vented out through the chimney.

Fireplaces come in all sizes, shapes and designs. Installing a specific fireplace in your home can be fun! Even though central heating has taken over, fireplaces will be the most beautiful accessory inside your home. Before you install a fireplace, you first have to differentiate various types of fireplaces.

The high demand for gas fireplaces has spiked the production of them substantially every year. The look of gas fireplaces give your home a traditional look.

Cast Iron Fireplaces:

Homes with little to no room will enjoy cast iron fireplaces. All you have to do is set up a cement slab. These fireplaces are best for smaller homes, since they don't emit any smoke. The fuel fire is smokeless, which makes this a great choice for smaller areas.

Stone Fireplaces:


Stone fireplaces are known for their traditional looks. These fireplaces are perfect for any style of decorating. It brings out color and natural texture into any room. Stone fireplaces are usually in older and newer homes. These are in high demand for a lot of people that want their homes to have an antique or vintage look. The most unique aspect of a stone fireplace is the usage of screens. These fireplaces not having a door makes a stone fireplace a must have.

Traditional Fireplaces:

Traditional fireplaces are the most recognizable fireplaces. Traditional fireplaces are found in living rooms, dens and bedrooms. It is wall mounted and consists of a mixture of materials. Brick, cement, stone or ceramic. Traditional fireplaces are very important. They set the decorative tone of an entire room. Wood and coal can be used for fuel. Traditional fireplaces eat up tons of energy and are not cost efficient.

Electric Fireplaces:


Electric fireplaces have the finest performance and quality. Electric fireplaces are modern and give your home a gallant look. People invest a lot of money to buy an electric fireplace. Electric fireplaces are very cost efficient and reduces your heating costs. Electric fireplaces are charming and elegant. People are always satisfied with electric fireplaces.

Portable fireplaces have great innovative designs and they are affordable! Portable fireplaces are small and they can be placed in any room of your home. An indoor or outdoor fireplace to decorate any part of the house makes portable fireplaces very valuable.

Fireplaces are an essential part of a home. Fireplaces have been around for centuries. Fireplaces have managed to adapt and remain a vital accessory for homes today. Even when new technologies are being discovered, people still choose a fireplace to heat their homes.
