What is Stress?
65
The technical definition of stress is the physical pressure, pull, or other force exerted on one thing by another; strain. That definitely doesn't sound good, does it? Well, that is what happens to us when we undergo stress. Our minds and bodies can only take so much of it. Mentally, we are only equipped to handle as much as our brains can take. This goes for anyone. Our minds were not made to take on the world, and that is what a lot of us are trying to do in our day to day lives. We need to learn to slow down and take a deep breath. At work, we should learn how to set reasonable goals for ourselves in terms of how much we can take on. The same goes for people who do not work, there are still things to do. The pressure of everyday life can really take a toll on us physically and mentally.
Mental and emotional changes are often the first signs that stress is taking its toll. Stress takes away from the memory when too much is applied. It also decreases our abilities to think clearly. Stress eventually leads to mood changes and can cause mental illnesses like depression and anxiety. It also causes us to age quicker which in turn leads to our bodies and minds not being able to deal with it like we were once able to. We become tired and more easily exhausted than we once were. Some people cannot even function properly when they are under too much stress. What is so sad is that it is completely normal for people to break down, especially if they are not taking care of themselves in the process. We all deserve a little TLC from time to time.
Stress can come from many sources. One of the biggest and most obvious in the world today is finances. We always seem to worry about money. Worry gets us nowhere. If nothing can be done, then it just simply cannot be done. Worrying about money is a never ending thing. People will always have bills to pay, and as long as the economy is down and out like it currently is, people are going to continue to lose jobs. It is actually very depressing. But, we cannot let ourselves get beat down. Other sources of stress come from losing loved ones or experiencing a divorce. These things can also lead to some serious depression. Emotionally, stress can cause us to lose all of our coping skills.
What do we do when we experience all of this stress? All that we can do is to take some time out and learn to take better care of ourselves. Our bodies cannot continue to run on empty forever. If we continue without doing something about it, our health will begin to decline. You can always tell if someone is stressed out by looking at them. It is just plain obvious. They have more creases in their foreheads and they look tired. They might even begin to look sick. Those who already have some form of a physical illness will get sicker. People who do not have illnesses will develop them. Heart problems might abound from having too much stress. Sicknesses like cancer can also come about. Anxiety attacks and mood swings will become more prominent in those individuals who are under a lot of stress.
With all of these horrible things that can result from stress, there has got to be something that you can do, and there is. Therapeutic massage can help to reverse some of the physical problems in addition to relieve some of the emotional issues that being stressed out can cause. Therapeutic massage helps to increase blood flow, which can also speed up the process of healing within the body. Massage also aides in increasing the number of antioxidants that our bodies have. There are all types of massage therapy from aroma therapy to shiatsu massage therapy.
An even better and more affordable way to relieve yourself from stress would be to find out what the best massage chair would be for you and to place it conveniently right inside of your home. Shiatsu massage chairs can give the exact same effect as actual shiatsu massage given by a massage therapist. Robotic massage chairs are wonderful because you have the benefit of receiving an all over body massage anytime that you feel like it. You can place your massage chair inside your bedroom, living room, or outside on your patio. They are much less expensive than having to pay weekly for a professional massage therapist, and will help you to save thousands over time. We all need to relax and recuperate from stress. Massage chairs can help us to do exactly that.
